Duterte Signs Law on Stricter Penalties on Hospitals Demanding Deposit From Patients Before Treating Them in Emergency Situations

President Rodrigo Duterte has signed legislation that mandates stricter punishment for those who refuse initial treatment and support for patients in an emergency or serious medical condition.

Republic Act. No. 10932 amends Batas Pambansa Bilang 702 (also called "the law prohibiting the deposit or advance payment of a patient for imprisonment or treatment in a hospital or a patient clinic as amended by the Republic Act") amended by the Republic Act. No. 8344.

A medical practitioner or employee of a hospital or hospital who violates the provisions of this Act shall be guilty of a final judgment and sentenced to imprisonment of six months and one day to two years and four months. , Or P100,000 or more, P300,000.00 or less, or both, in accordance with Clause 4 of RA 10932.

Duterte approved the amendment on Wednesday, August 3.
