Philippine Marines Recover ₱52M Cash, ₱27M Worth Of Checks in Marawi Home

The Philippine Marines recovered $ 52 million in cash from a house in the city of Marawi.

On Monday afternoon, the Marines discovered money and checks worth $ 27 million while working near Maplandi bridges.The Marines reported that the house was the abandoned machine gun location of armed terrorist group Maute. After the inventory was finished, money and checks were handed over to Joint Task Force Marawi for safety.

Maute Group has been fighting government forces in the Philippines since May 23 to protect ISIS's "emir" or leader Isnilon Hapilon in Marawi City.

Hapilon works with the Maute Group to establish ISIS's "wilayat" or Caliph in Lanao del Sur.

Due to ongoing violence in Marawi, President Rodrigo Duterte declared martial law throughout Mindanao on May 23 and suspended the privilege of the humanitarian warrant.
